» About Soul of India
Kenneth Wilson, founder and director of Soul of India Tours, writes...
I have been a regular visitor to India since 1984. I first took a group in 1992, when I was a minister in the Church of England. That was an "interfaith pilgrimage" for the Waltham Forest All Faiths Group. The journey attracted commendation from the Archbishop of Canterbury, and other religious leaders, and was widely reported in the Indian press.
Later I set up Soul of India Tours because I wanted other people to enjoy some of the same kinds of experience of India as I had had. India is created by its religious and spiritual history, and that history is still alive today. You have to be prepared to take that seriously, and to meet the country on its own terms.
So we aim to be sympathetic and friendly to the country. We visit places that are important to the people whose country we are in, and like them, we take our shoes off when we are walking on holy ground.
Now, as well as organising Escorted Tours and Independent Travellers' itineraries, we are the leading provider of tailormade pilgrimage and religious interest group travel to India (see Tailormade Group). We have provided tours for churches, education authorities, yoga groups and others, including for instance:
- The World Community for Christian Meditation
- Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre
- Yoga and Health Magazine
- The United Religions Initiative UK
- Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council
- The Diocese of Hereford
